Muffin Galore

After almost 8 years of mango and passion, blueberry crumble and carrot and apple - we are about to change our muffins. It may not sound like anything to some but for us, in our little geeky cake world, this is as momentous as any of the big revolutions in human history.
But please bear with us while we experiment a little longer and come up with suitable substitutes for those old giants... and it is probably evident from the picture that we are not taking this lightly.

It looks very promising and I truly look forward to having something new in my daily breakfast sittings in my much loved Notting Hill branch...
Are there new berries? Is that a chocolate muffin I see in the picture? Oh la la!
Pumpkinnn, yes, chocolate, new berries, anything you could possibly wish for...
It's a bit early in the year, but can I suggest quince and apple?
Chloe, that's a perfect combination. Will keep in mind for the autumn. Thanks
I already love your muffins! what about zuchini? can i have your delicious blueberry crumble muffin recipe?
Are we invited to give some suggestions regarding the new muffin family? Rhubarb muffins are wonderful, then. But kind of seasonal... Are the new muffins supposed to appear just for the summer or stay with us a bit longer? In case of the latter - banana and maple is always a winner. Plus some walnuts. Although you already do have that lovely banana bread... How about coconut and macadamia with addition of dried apricots? And crumble of course... Crumble should be mandatory. Crumble is a wonderful creation.
Pumpkin, suggestions are always welcome. These are some great ideas. I shall bring before the "forum"... Thank You
You're welcome. I'm really glad you are going to take those ideas into consideration.
margarita hi, blueberry crumble recipe is in the first book. yummy:)
I had nutella&ricotta cheese muffin last week.
Die for it ;) Dont know its new or not but yummy yummy yummy
thankx
Got yur book as a birthday present from my lovely brother who knows me so well. Everything you do, the philosophy, the presentation, the food.... vibrates thru me so true. Already cooked everyting vegetaries in the book and along the way came up with many other recepies in the same character. Love you. What will it take to open Ottolenghi in Tel Aviv?
@Aycha, if you had ours it was, strictly speaking, a cake but who cares. I also love it.
@Anya, maybe one day... Thank you.
@אריאלה,
מחכים לך! להתראות
Damn you Ottolenghi for getting me into food porn!!! I always avoided your recipes in the Guardian as they looked too complicated and I'm on a strict budget, but I was getting really bored with food as me and my husband are vegans and I'm not really an imaginative cook. However, I've been "veganising" your recipes especially those from Cook Vegetarian magazine and I'm totally converted. I've saved money by growing my own veg and herbs. At last my food tastes fabulous, your recipes have saved our lives and out taste buds and a whole new world has opened up. Thank you so much :-D
Hi Yotam - wow, a muffin change, that is certainly momentus!! Here in Melbourne at Ousia I find that the most popular combinations are Pear+Dark Chocolate+Pistachio, and this year Rhubarb+Quince has proven a favourite. Raspberry, rosewater and dark chocolate is also my muffin version of the Turkish Delight - it's delicious! Good luck, I'm looking forward to sampling the winning combinations in October!
Yes, the chocolate hazelnut ricotta little devils are just splendid! I have tried to recreate them at home 3 times now but they came out nowhere near to be as good as Ottolenghi's. Eventually I gave up (for the time being:)) and asked to have a whole cake made for my birthday party at Islington branch a couple of months ago and I couldn't thank enough - it was so amazingly delicious!
@Louisa. It's an absolute honour. Than you.
@Kate, thanks for that. Will keep in mind.
@Pumpkinn... Ta.
I am sorry this is off the subject of delicious muffins.I live in Salt Lake City,Utah and I am wondering if you have a list of foods I could substitute. I was looking at your recipe for sweet potato salad and it called for sultanas.I do not think we have those here. Also I have been telling every foodie i know about your wonderful web-site and cookbooks!!!! You have inspired me to cook up a storm!!!!!! Will you ever be in the U.S giving classes? Thank you for you time,Have a great day! Allison shayne
Allison, instead of sultanas you can use plump raisins. Classes in the US aren't planned but will definitely keep in mind. Thanks for all the compliments!
Hello!
It couldn't be a better moment to visit your blog cause at the moment I have precisely a muffin-related situation! :)
Can you recomend a good wholegrain and low-in-sugars muffin recipe/version of your muffins???
I know this sounds like taking away a lot of the muffins yumminess, mostly the low-sweetened part, but I am looking for ways to prepare the things I love while I have Gestational Diabetes (a type of diabetes that happens during pregnancy)...
I also wanted to say how much I miss Ottolengui since I left London and how happy and lucky I am to have your books! (Living in Amsterdam now). Every time I try a recipe it works and it makes us all happy at home!
Big thanks!

A devoted fan from Venezuela
ps: any chance you open in Amsterdam? ;)
Mercedes, sorry to disappoint on so many fronts. I am afraid I am no expert on substitutes but just think of the joy you are going to have once the pregnancy is over. Also, Ottolenghi in Amsterdam is less than likely. How will we get there every morning? Good luck with it!
I'm visiting my son in London at the end of the month and can't wait to visit one of your shops. Food sounds truly scrumptious. I'm a complete muffin addict and make them every weekend and love the sound of some of the combo's. Last week I made some truly delicious Courgette (Zucchini), Parmesan and Vacheron Cheese Muffins, soooooo good.
They are seasonal but i have tried wonderful, really wonderful goosberry muffins.Just a little thought!
Have you decided on your new muffins?? Regardless, I bet you've had fun experimenting!
Kate, yes, we did have fun. Ended up with new 1 real new muffin - chocolate and cherry - and the rest are similar to what we had. So less of a revolution than we thought.
