Jerusalem Cover - Uncovered!
Very difficult to contain the excitement about our upcoming Jerusalem Cookbook, out in the UK on September 6th and in the US on October 16th.
This has been 2 years in the making, with endless hours of recipe testing, story collecting, location shooting, historical researching and, finally, cooking and photographing all those incredible dishes.
And here is the British face, followed by the American:

Happy reading!

Congratulations Yotam and Sami - both of them look wonderful but I must say the UK edition is my favourite :) Can't wait to get my hands on it! x

Another gorgeous book for my library. Very excited about this!
@Mr. Glitter, @Keiko, Thank you. It's been a long road getting here, we are very happy with the results!
I found your programme Jerusalem on a Plate so inspiring that we have booked to stay there in October this year. My husband just has to go to the little bakery you showed that has been there for ages just making the one thing - is it called Zalatimo's? ...so it will be the most expensive snack we've ever had Haha!!!. I have also just read Jerusalem the Biography by Simon Sebag Montefiore - all due to your splendid portrayal of this fascinating city.I am a hiuge fan and many thanks for guiding us there. Will have to get the book in Sept
Love all your books! I'll be living in Melbourne, Australia from July onwards - do you have a release date for Aus? Otherwise I'll have to get a friend to buy me the book and mail it to me.
Looking forward to my own copy -- I'll definitely be ordering the UK edition, though. Yet again, the UK cover is so much more beautiful than the version we'll have over here. Can't wait to come back to Ottolenghi!
@Pauline, thank you! It is an amazing city and am sure you will have a great time. The bakery is called Zalatimo's.
@Carmen, the book will be available in bookshops throughout Australia around the same time as the release here, or you can buy it from the American or UK Amazon website and get it sent.
@James, Thanks! see you here soon I hope.
Sami, Yotam, my next trip to London is foreseen in october...I am looking forward to discover your new book and dishes in live at one of your restaurants. Thanks for sharing your covers with us and definitely the UK version rules!
Hope you will one day open a restaurant in Brussels ;-)
Cheers and congrats!
I, too, will be buying the UK edition, even though I live in Canada. Thank heavens for Amazon.co.uk!! Looking forward to this new book!
I've been working my way through "Plenty", and live in Jerusalem, so look forward to the book!
I'm curious as to why the cover photos/design are different for the UK and US editions. I've noticed it on other cookbooks as well, and wonder what the considerations are.
@Florence, @Carmen, Thank you.
@Chanie, Yes it is quite common for the US versions to have different covers. market research shows that they prefer to have food on the cover than not! My cover for Plenty in German etc were different again.
Sami, Yotam,
I'm looking forward to the book translated to german :-) hopefully it's released soon? if not I gonna buy the english one - than its also a very good language-Training.
Thank you so much for your books and receipts. We very much enjoy making our way through them.
take care,
Tina (Austria)
Congratulations Yotam and Sami!
I have the UK version on pre-order and can't wait!
We're traveling to Jerusalem for the first time in September and intend on visiting some of the restaurants featured in your wonderful documentary. Even more exciting, is that on our return home we will be able to re-create some of our food experiences, as far away as New Zealand, thanks to 'Jerusalem', which will be waiting for us on our return home. With all our thanks
Yotam and Sami - I'm salivating for Jerusalem. I love the first two cookbook and am constantly making/adapting your recipes and posting on my blog. Quick question - will the cover on either the US or UK version be like the one on the US version of Plenty? I love that rather than a traditional hard cover with dust jacket. Also, is there any difference between the US and UK versions - units of measure, etc.?
Thanks!
Yum yum yummy!
Will there be a Dutch version available soon? I love your first two books!
Congratulations Yotam and Sami! I love your recipes in Plenty and The Cookbook and can't wait for a Dutch translation of Jerusalem.
My next trip to London is from August 18 until August 27th. I am looking forward to have a lunch one of those days in your restaurant.
Could you maybe spare a moment to talk with me about your philosophy concerning good food? Because I share your philosophy and want to open a lunchroom in Amsterdam this year.
Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from you.
Dear Yotam and team,
I got your cookbook for my birthday and I must say, I can't stop cooking. Everything is delicious, tastful, looks great and is so easy to cook! My family just realised that they haven't eaten meat in over a week now! Isn't that amazing? I am so looking forward to your next cookbook. Thanks ever so much for sharing your fabulous recipes with us.
Cover is perfect
@Aleida, @Jazreen, thank you!
@Gayle, neither copies will have the dust jacket, but the covers are different. The difference inside is the American version has been converted to American measurements.
@Georgie, have a great time travelling Israel, It's great that you will be able to relive your time there with the cookbook! Enjoy.
@Ulrike, Yes there will be a Dutch version. I haven't got the release date yet but will let you know.
@Kate, thank you!
Can't wait to get a copy of the Jerusalem -just had a fab dinner at Nopi today -saw you there and wanted to come and say thank you for all the great inspiring recipes
@Tina, We have not signed with a German publisher yet so if you want it as soon as it's released I recommend buying the English one!
@Henny, thank you for your message. I will be in touch with you soon.
Yotam, my husband, Colm and I have adored your food since your articles first appeared in the Guardian magazine. We love your recipies, and we adore Israel, we've been three times since 2008 and I could happily go only there for the rest of my life!! I'd say you have personally been responsible for a lot of people deciding to travel there, which is wonderful, as it sadly gets such a biased press. Glad to hear your Karl is from N.I. where we are ( we're "one of each", he'll know what that means lol ). We wish you every continued success, peace and blessings xx
Dear Oto,
Writing to you from Switzerland, a friend recommended me to you and I have been looking up your recipes. Might you have a compiled list where I could refer to all your recipes. Thank you so much and congratulations on your achievements.
Anne
For years I searched for food recipes that would reflect this somewhat peculiar? special?( what's the word to use? since it isn't really Israeli or Palestinian or Mediterranean ) taste. Until I discovered your books. Thank you for letting me use so much garlic, lemon, kusbara and feta cheese. I read though your recipes and I know what you mean. And to an Israeli leaving abroad, to be able to revive the flavours of our land in my own kitchen is a bliss! באמת תודה לשניכם .
יותם,
אבל מה עם ספר חדש בעברית?
אנחנו מחכים לתרגומים של
ושל הספר החדש על ירושליםplenty !
אנא למהר!
תודה
:-)
I have just picked up my copie and I just cannot contain the excitiment about this book. YOu guys are amazing and the food you do is so inspiring and exciting!!
I'm salivating just thinking about all the delicious exotic food to cook up when I get my copy!! Can't wait. In the meantime, do you happen to know of an ethnic restaurant in the Armenian Quarter where I can take a group of 20 travelers for lunch on a weekday. We're traveling from Germany in October.
I can't wait to get your book and add it to my Ottolenghi collection...I am your biggest fan!
I have a question I would like to ask you, I hope you might have the time to answer?
I am setting up an Artisan bakery (my husband is the baker)in Suffolk and as chief pastry maker I aspire to create a beautiful window display on a smaller scale to yours. I am unsure about whether certain cakes and pastries should be displayed in a fridge e.g fruit tarts with creme pattisiere (and I don't think any of yours are?)for health and safety reasons and are there any guidelines you would sharing with me?
I hope you might be able to offer me some guidelines?
Rebecca
Yotam, Sami..

it would be really an honor for us
all the best with the new cookbook...
"Jerusalem" arrived today. It's everything I'd hoped for. Visiting Jerusalem for the fourth time since 2008 this December, can't wait. Well done !
Dinner tonight in Melbourne Australia for rosh hashana will consist of 4 recipes from Jerusalem and a number of others from your other books! Tonight we drink and eat to your health! Thank youI for making beautiful food that we can share with so many!! Xo
I received Jerusalem as a gift from my mother and very much enjoyed experimenting with the recipes over Rosh Hashanah. They went down well with the guests too, and several of them had also bought the book and are looking forward to using it!
Hi
I made all three recipes for dinner. "Beef meatballs with broad beans & lemon ; Roasted potatoes with caramel & prunes ; Spiced chickpeas & fresh vegetable salad". It toke about 4hr to prepare but it was worth it. This was a great combination.
Hi Yotam & Sami
I made the chocolate krantz cake/babka yesterday and i have to say it was delicious! I was a little worried about the amount of syrup to brush on the cakes but I persevered and it was amazing. I also made the meatballs with broadbeans and lemon (the night before yom kippur fast!) - took a while to make it and we didn't eat till 9.15pm but was totally worth the wait!
Thanks for a great read and fab recipes
Rachel (in Australia)
x
ps, my mum and nanny who are of moroccan background used to make 'meat patties' when we were young - mashed up potato stuffed with finely minced beef dipped in egg and fried - v similar to the kibbeh in the book!
i love the new book, i would love to go and smell jerusalem too you really make it easy to imagine! some things are not easy to find here but i dont stop looking for all the stuff or order it online! congratulation on the beautiful work , keep it up and thank you so much, i hope to visit soon!
sanni
Just got Jerusalem for my birthday - what a beautiful book! Really looking forward to trying out the recipes...
Only one question - while bread is mentioned (often) there are no bread recipes? Any recommendations of sites where I can find "typical" bread recipes (yeast or sourdough)?
thanks!!
I just discovered "Plenty" and have been cooking up a storm right from my garden (tons of eggplant this year). This is the most fabulous cookbook I have ever seen - with food like this I could be a vegetarian!
Now I see you have another cookbook out, which I can't WAIT to get. I was in Jerusalem in May and fell in love with the cuisine!
My husband Tony Chapman is a HUGE fan of your cook book and just posted a really nice post in his blog... we live in Hyderabad in India and we are eating some divine meals thanks to your new cook book!
Would love you to check it out here at his Facebook post:

@Angela, thank you. It's great to hear you enjoy your trips to Israel. As you can tell by our book it is a special place for us.
@Anna, no compiled list on the web, but you will find a wide range of my recipes on the guardian website.
@vered, my pleasure!
@Marsha, sorry for the delayed response. Did you find somewhere to take your group?
@Rebecca, it is best to consult a health and safety company but one thing we make sure of is nothing sits out too long. Which means either a high turnover or smaller display. I hope it is going well!
@flo, great article in bonapitite. Will definitely keep you in mind if we venture to south america. Thanks
@Di, @ Mrs Belogski, thank you!
@Nelson, @Rachel great work. The meatballs are one of my favourites but it does take some time to pod the braod beans!
@Sanni, I love searching for hard to find ingredients but i know many people dont have the options of large city's so we now have an online store where you can buy a large range of hard to get ingredients. Happy cooking!
@Bookfran, I love hearing stories of people cooking right from their gardens, thank you.
@Juhee, With all the book tour demands I have obviously fallen behind on my responses to our blogs! I saw this blog recently and shared it on our facebook page. Thanks again Tony
Already commented in June 12 but now have returned from Isreal tour including 4 nights (not enough) in Jerusalem inspired by your wonderful TV programme & then the book (now a treasured possession). Found Zalatimo's & had to go twice to try the nut and then the cheese mutabak What a wonderfully peaceful little place amongst the bustle of the souk. The owner was so delighted that he is famous in England. He was just charming & as for the Mutabak - just heaven!!Jersualam was fantastic but sadly didn't have much chance to go beyond the old city....may have to go again!!!
Dear Yotam & Sami,
Congrats on Jerusalem, the book has already drawn gasps of awe from friends and family alike not only for the gorgeous cover but for its delightful contents!
My friends and I are planning to cook some of the recipes together to treat our families before Christmas. Hope it works out.
On another subject, please open a place in St Johns Wood NW London. We desparately need an excellent quality deli/restaurant in our area and there's no lack of diversity here just too many chains in the High St. Come to the Abbey Road area, there's lot of space here ;-D
Shalom, Salaam & Namaste`
Alpa
@Pauline, yes, jerusalem is one of the only places in the world where a "secret" like zalatimo can be around for 50 years. delighted you are enjoying the culinary attractions of this intriguing place.
@Alpa, cooking with friends is such a great way to spend a day, I hope it works out too!
Hello Yotam and Sami - I just love your Jerusalem - the recipes, the book and of course our very special city I visited again just a couple of weeks ago. Thank you for sharing your talents and experiences and most of all your passion for Jerusalem. Please will you contact me on your return from your promo tour to discuss Manchester UK where we so want to welcome you for a very exciting event!! LOL
